News from Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council – March 2025

(Submitted by Dave Mason, SRFSC)

While we saw some rain in February, and we may see more this month, it may not be enough to significantly reduce the fire risk in our community. It’s important to stay prepared as fire danger remains a concern.

The Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council is committed to providing the information you need to keep your family and our community safe from wildfires. Here are some essential tips:

Create an Emergency Action Plan

Having a well-thought-out Wildfire Action Plan is critical for every household. Tailor your plan to your family’s needs and situations, ensuring everyone knows what to do ahead of time. Your plan should include:

· Meeting Point: Choose a predetermined meeting location outside high-risk areas to check who has evacuated.

· Escape Routes: Identify several escape routes and make sure everyone in your household is familiar with them. Practice them regularly.

· Animal Arrangements: Make specific plans for pets and larger animals like horses or livestock.

· Communication Plan: Designate a contact person outside the area who can serve as the main point of contact if you are separated or if phone networks are down.

The Scripps Ranch Fire Safe Council has a printed evacuation plan available for you and your family. If you would like one, please reach out to us at 858-201-3711 or srfiresafe@gmail.com. It is also available online at https://shorturl.at/6qucR.

Remember the 6 P’s for Wildfire Evacuation

When evacuating, keep these 6 P’s in mind:

People & Pets

Papers, Phone Numbers & Important Documents

Prescriptions, Vitamins & Eyeglasses

Pictures & Irreplaceable Memorabilia

Personal Computer, Hard Drive & Disks

“Plastic” (Credit Cards, ATM Cards) & Cash

These items should be easily accessible to avoid scrambling during an evacuation.
