August 2024 Newsletter

First of all, thank you to all the residents who stopped by our Open House at Sta. 37 last month. It was a great turn out and we hope you learned a few things and got some good advice.

Also thank you for the warm reception at the 4th of July parade. It was great.

Continuing with safety tips to protect your home from fire:

 Install smoke detectors on every floor in your home in every bedroom. Test every detector every month and change their batteries. Never disable smoke detectors. If you need help with installation of the detectors, check with the Burn Institute, under certain circumstances, they will provide and install them for free

 Develop a family escape plan and make sure every family member is familiar with it.

 Keep matches, lighter and candles out of children’s reach. NEVER smoke in bed – it is the leading cause of fire related deaths

 Keep anything that can catch fire away from fireplaces, heaters and radiators. Replace frayed electrical wires.

 Take care to avoid kitchen fires and burns. Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Turn pot handles toward the inside of the stove so children cannot grab them. Install ground-fault circuit interrupters (GFCI’s in kitchens and bathroom.

 Set water-heater thermostats below 120 degrees. Always test the water before bathing yourself of your child.

 Do you know how to off turn your gas, electricity and water?

I know you have heard a lot of this before, this is just a reminder of some of these items you don’t think about.
